The brief

ICMS Edinburgh required a video for their presentation at the Edinburgh Science Festival. They hired me to produce storyboards and illustrations for an animation that effectively communicated the study's essence in a simple yet engaging way, suitable for diverse audiences, including school children.

Brief

In 2021, ICMS Edinburgh was invited to showcase their collaboration with Chami Medical Group at the Edinburgh Science Festival. We were tasked with creating a visually compelling animation that would educate audiences on the scientific study without overwhelming them with technical jargon.

I produced storyboards and illustrations for the animation. Working closely with animator Abigail Lamb, we developed a motion design that effectively communicated the core messages while maintaining a sense of simplicity that would appeal to a wide range of audiences, including school children.

Challenge

One of the key challenges we faced was to strike the right balance between simplification and scientific accuracy. We wanted to make the study accessible to all audiences, without oversimplifying it.

We incorporated minimal animation, using movement only when necessary to illustrate key points. This approach proved successful, as it kept the viewer's attention while effectively communicating the essential information.
